Maxima!

I have begun working on connecting MathDrag'n to Maxima.  The basics seem to work, although there are still some translation errors that take place, especially in regards to the names of system constants.  The derivative system was also designed with Mathematica in mind (although I like how I have partial derivatives on the functions) and so the two can't quite speak to each other yet.  I also haven't checked this in Unix or OSX, and the user interface for changing the kernel hasn't been implemented yet.  The basics, however, are there.  I won't release it until both sides can handle everything they can throw at each other, and most importantly, users can always connect to the system.  On the other hand, this is very exciting---finally everyone who gets MathDrag'n will be able to use all its features without owning an expensive external product.

Hi,
I tried to use it with Maxima too and got this error:
"MaximaKernel did not recognize file input as maxima input"

Can someone help me?

Thanks in advance!

hi there,
i have the same problem as the two other guys before me.
i tried to use the executable with no luck at all. could it be because the file is a batch file?
i would realy appreciate a response, that way i can check the potential of this application and recommend it to my teacher.
thanks in advance
Guy

I'm so sorry about not responding. My goodness! I went months without a single link, and then discover three people responding. "Overwhelming demand" may be the wrong term for this, but I know there are a lot more people who have tried and failed to get MathDrag'n to work and haven't posted.

The most likely problem is that you have the wrong version of Maxima. MathDrag'n only accepts versions 5.9.*, so that might be it. (Of course, it might not.) Heaven help me, I'll try to get it working for reals now on all system. A year without a single response, and I'd sort of lost, not interest, but hope... Then this. If you can forgive me, I'll get it working.

This project seems very promising, but I got the same problem, working with maxima 5.10.
What is the kernel file by the way :
...\lib\maxima\5.10.0\binary-gcl\maxima.exe ?

My suggestion to you, hpchavas, would be to download the new version of MathDrag'n I just released yesterday. I've spent quite a bit of time getting MathDrag'n to work with multiple versions of Maxima, and I think the new version should have that solved.

And yes, I believe that would be the correct kernel file.

maxima-5.11.99rc1.exe is not recognized for me on XP. I recieve Error in Initializer MaximaKernal did not recognize file input as maxima input.
I will try to find 5.10...

maxima-5.11.0b.exe appears to work. Issued a warning about Maxima being younger than the copy of MathDrag'n but at least it loads...
I'm still looking for an older version of maxima...

The warning is probably meaningless. It only causes trouble if the syntax for one of the commands I used changes. If factorization, solving, plotting, and the other functions all still work, I can probably change the error message.

I had problems finding the kernel as well but then loaded an additional version of Maxima (ver. 5.9.1) from
http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=4933&package_id=4960&release_id=270236
then I closed and re-opened MathnDrag and was informed that the program had connected to Maxima.

Very cool program for algebra manipulation. I really appreciate the substitution functions. The only problem is that it is so good I want more .... integrations, differentiations, text, printouts. But maybe there is more present that I have yet to discover. Anyway, really excellent work, clean! Thank you.
